The Central Credit Register: what it says about you
Short answer
The Central Credit Register at the Bulgarian National Bank holds data on your obligations to banks and financial institutions, and any person may request a report on their own data.
What it contains and what it does not
It contains information on credit obligations and how they are serviced, submitted by lenders. It does not contain a “good” or “bad” customer score and it does not decide in the lender’s place — the lending decision remains the lender’s, on the lender’s rules.
Requesting your own data
Any individual or legal entity may request a report on the data relating to them. That is the practical step before applying: better to know what is recorded than to learn it from a rejection.
How long arrears remain visible
Information is stored for a defined period after repayment as well. So a delay that looks minor today can still be visible after it has been paid — and a correction is requested from the lender that submitted the data, not from the register.
Frequently asked questions
- What if the data is wrong?
- Correction starts with the lender that submitted the information. The register reflects what was submitted; it is not the source of the error and does not fix it on its own.
- Do payday loans appear in the register?
- Obligations to financial institutions that submit data are reflected. Whether a particular lender submits depends on the regime it falls under.
